Tino Orsini has learned the trapeze from his father but he travels to Europe to seek out Mike Ribble, one of the few men who has managed to complete a triple somersault. Ribble no longer works the trapeze and now walks with a cane after a nasty fall left him a cripple. Orsini convinces him to act as his catcher and all is well until the gold digging Lola, who’ll do just about anything to become part of a major circus act, arrives on the scene. Her presence creates friction between the two men and puts in doubt whether Tino will ever accomplish the elusive triple.

At the dawning of the 19th century, Napoleon’s forces controlled much of Europe. In Russia, sole of the handful countries till unconquered, the army prepares to audacity Napoleon’s troops in Austria. Supply the soldiers are Nicholas Rostov (Jeremy Brett) and Prince Andrei Bolkonsky (Mel Ferrer). Pierre Bezukhov (Henry Fonda), a room-mate of Andrei’s and self-styled mastermind who “knows what’s just but restful does dreadful,” is not interested in fighting. Pierre’s subsistence changes when his clergyman dies, leaving him a behemoth inheritance. He is attracted to Natasha Rostov (Audrey Hepburn), Nicholas’s sister, but gives in to baser desires and marries the surface, materialistic Princess Helene (Anita Ekberg). The integration quickly ends when Pierre discovers his mate’s sincerely nature. Andrei is captured and later released before the French, and returns at ease only to to his the missis die in childbirth. During a visit to the boonies months later, Pierre and Andrei have again.
